Description

Janet Golder Kngwarreye is an Aboriginal Artist from Mulga Bore, a place located within the Utopia Homelands approximately 250 kilometers from  Alice Springs. Coming from a family renowned for artistic achievement, Janet was raised in close proximity to several influential Utopian artists and developed her painting skills from a young age, alongside a comprehensive understanding of her Country and Women's Dreaming’s.

Growing up during the Utopian batik project of the 1980s, Janet observed as her family adapted traditional imagery and knowledge from sand and body painting to silk, and subsequently to canvas. The experience gained by Utopia artists through batik-making introduced innovative techniques such as layering and fine line work, which have since influenced their approach to painting. Artists in this community also developed a range of styles to depict their Dreaming’s and express individual connections to Country.

Drawing upon these influences, Janet produces works featuring various Dreaming stories, including Bush Medicine Leaves, Awelye, and My Country.

Janet is a very popular artist. Her exhibitions span both Australian and international galleries, solidifying her reputation as a highly skilled and sought-after artist.
