Minnie painted stories, or Dreamings, connected to the bush tomato and the wild desert orange. The people of Utopia call these plants anemangkerr and akarley. In her paintings, both fruits are shown as circles.
A shape that appears often in her work hangs down and is filled with parallel lines. It represents a woman’s breast decorated for women’s ceremony. Minnie was a respected tribal elder and ceremonial body painter, and she brought parts of that important role into her paintings on canvas.
