"SALE of our 30 year Collection - All offers will be considered by Werner!"
Kate Petyarre (Pitjara), born in 1971, is an emerging artist from Utopia, Northern Territory, following her mother Polly Ngale's artistic tradition. She paints Dreamings of Atnwelarr, Kame (the pencil yam), and Anwekety (bush plum), stories passed down through generations.
Anwekety, or conkerberry, is a prized fruit for desert Aboriginals, growing in limited weeks each year and often referred to as ‘bush plum’ by the Anmatyerre people. Its Dreamtime story belongs to Ahalpere country, where winds spread its seeds across the land, establishing its presence.
Like her mother and aunt Kathleen Ngale, Kate layers vibrant colours and brushstrokes in her Anwekety paintings to achieve multi-dimensional, dynamic effects with subtle tonal shifts.
