Tanya Bird was born in 1981 and is the daughter of artists Paddy and Eileen Bird of Utopia, and granddaughter of renowned artist Ada Bird Petyarre.
Tanya grew up surrounded by the habitual routine of painting by her family in her home community of Utopia in Central Australia, about 300 kms north/east of Alice Springs. She first began painting herself as an early teenager. Her grandmother Ada Bird Petyarre, who passed away in 2009, was a strong influence to her but around 2010 Tanya developed her own style using black, grey and white designs to depict her stories. Tanya paints for a limited number of galleries only and is not very well known yet. She is one of the new generation of artists with a refined technique, great artistic skills and at the same time very traditional carrying on the family tradition of painting stories as passed on by her ancestors.
Tanya was a Finalist in the 30th Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award
