Story
The bush leaves depicted in this painting are from a particular bush which grows in a swamp close to the sand hills around Utopia in Central Australia. The leaves are collected by the women and boiled. Kangaroo fat is added and mixed into a paste which is used as bush medicine to treat a variety of ailments. Mixed with water it is drunk as a cure for headaches and colds. Through skilful use of colour and form the eye is drawn across a network of interconnected shapes, thus creating an optical illusion of the movement of leaves blowing across the Dreaming landscape.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are advised that this website may contain images and voices of people who have died.
