Lorna Fencer Napurrula
Lorna Fencer Napurrula was born in the 1920s in the Tanami Desert in Central Australia. She was among the first Aboriginal artists who took up painting with acrylic on canvas and linen in her community of Lajamanu. As a prominent elder she not only maintained but strengthened her cultural identity through her paintings and ceremonies. Lorna passed away in 2006 but her art will survive generations. In 2007 she was named one of Australia’s 50 most collectable artists by the Australian Art Collector Magazine.
