Aboriginal Artist Karen Bird
Karen was born in 1984 and belongs to the Anmatyerre Language Group. Her paintings are exhibited by a number of galleries in Australia and have been promoted in Alice Springs, Darwin and the USA. Karen's art is very detailed and loved by visitors to our gallery in Southport.
Many years ago, when I visited the elder and well known Artist Lindsay Bird in Mulga Bore, about 250 kms north/east of Alice Springs in Central Australia there were always two little girls running around us, laughing, playing and waiting for some gifts which I always carried with me. The girls were restless and always wanted to help their parents paint. Today, both of those girls, Karen and Tanya are accomplished artists themself and next to teaching both do paintings for some galleries. One of Karen's favourate Dreamtime story is about the Rattail plant or Alpar. This plant was quite important in the past when women would collect the seeds of the Alpar plant, crushed them and made damper (bread) out of it.
